The origins of the Mikalor clamp quality

Today, we will describe the main tests we run in Mikalor to achieve the exceptional performance of hose clamps.

Mikalor hose clamps undergo rigorous testing to ensure their strength, durability, and leak-tightness capability under extreme conditions.

Thanks to these tests, our stainless steel and high-pressure hose clamps, among others, deliver superior performance in industries such as automotive, manufacturing, and engineering. They meet the highest quality and safety standards, ensuring reliability in any application.

Salt-Spray Test

Exposure to corrosive environments can compromise the durability of hose clamps, affecting their lifespan and performance. For this reason, we subject our clamps to the salt spray test, which evaluates their resistance to corrosion and their ability to remain intact in harsh environments.

This test is essential to guarantee the structural integrity of worm-drive clamps even in adverse conditions, such as exposure to marine environments or aggressive industrial processes.

How is it conducted?

  • The clamps are placed in a salt spray chamber at 35°C, simulating a highly corrosive environment.
  • A 5% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution is sprayed to accelerate the corrosion process.
  • The test duration ranges from 24 to 1000 hours, depending on the required level of resistance.
  • The time until corrosion appears and its impact on the material structure are analyzed.

Mikalor hose clamps undergo salt spray testing in accordance with ASTM B117 (Standard Practice for Operating Salt Spray). This results in an extended lifespan and reduced failure risk in critical applications, aspects of particular importance in the chemical, mining, and metallurgical industries.

Thanks to this test, our customers can be confident that our worm-drive hose clamps will withstand the test of time without losing their functionality.

Polar Diagram Test

The polar diagram test evaluates the clamp’s ability to evenly distribute pressure around the hose or joint, ensuring a 100% leak-proof seal.

Any irregularity in pressure distribution can create weak points, increase the risk of system failures, and require more frequent maintenance.

How is it measured?

  • 8 different sections of the clamp are analyzed using advanced measurement tools.
  • The tightening torque applied to the clamp is verified to ensure uniform distribution, eliminating excessive stress points that could damage the application.
  • The force applied at each point and its variability are recorded.

As a result of this process, we verify that Mikalor hose clamps outperform generic clamps, allowing us to serve industries such as aerospace and high-pressure hydraulic systems.

An uneven pressure distribution can create weak points, increasing the risk of system failure and the need for frequent maintenance.

Total Leaktightness Test

To achieve a completely tight sealing, Mikalor hose clamps must pass a total leaktightness test, verifying the absence of leaks even under high-pressure conditions.

This test is particularly relevant for applications requiring an impeccable seal, which is essential in hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Procedure:

  • The clamp is submerged in a water chamber designed to detect leaks.
  • If leaks are present, bubbles appear under the clamp, indicating a sealing defect.
  • Pressurized air is applied to the clamp to evaluate its retention capacity.

This procedure is crucial in industries where any leakage could compromise system performance, leading to increased repair and maintenance costs, such as in the automotive and petrochemical sectors.

Blow Off Test

To assess the ultimate strength of our clamps, we perform the Blow Off test, gradually increasing application pressure until the failure point is reached.

This test allows us to determine the real performance of each clamp in highly demanding environments and verify their effectiveness under mechanical stress conditions.

Differences between a Mikalor clamp and a conventional one:

  • When applying a torque of 2 Newtons, the Mikalor ASFA hose clamp maintains its seal significantly longer than a generic clamp.
  • Its resistance to pressure makes it ideal for applications requiring maximum safety, ensuring a stable connection without the risk of slippage or premature failure.

Mikalor hose clamps are designed to deliver superior performance in applications where pressure and safety are critical factors.

This provides our customers with the confidence that their systems will operate without interruptions, even in highly demanding environments such as heavy machinery and industrial hydraulic systems.

P.V.T. Test

The Pressure, Vibration, and Temperature or PVT test plays a key role in the automotive industry and other sectors where operating conditions are constantly changing.

These tests allow us to evaluate clamp durability in scenarios where the combination of these 3 factors can cause accelerated wear.

Test Process:

  • Clamps are exposed to extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to 150°C to assess their behavior in adverse climates.
  • Continuous vibrations are applied to simulate operating conditions in vehicles or industrial machinery.
  • Sudden pressure changes are introduced to verify their resistance in high-demand environments.
  • The integrity of the seal is analysed after prolonged exposure to these conditions in order to confirm the reliability of the structure.

Once again, Mikalor clamps pass this test without signs of fatigue or leaks, confirming their effectiveness in critical environments such as internal combustion engines or industrial cooling systems.
